Multi-Tier System of Supports (MTSS)

Multi-Tier System of Support (MTSS)

At Opelika City Schools, we believe every child can learn and grow with the right support. The Multi-Tier System of Support (MTSS) is a framework designed to help all students succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.

What is MTSS?
MTSS is a team-based approach that gives students the help they need when they need it. It brings together teachers, school staff, families, and community partners to support students in the following areas:

  • Academics: Making sure students have strong learning foundations
  • Behavior: Encouraging positive actions and choices
  • Wellness: Supporting students' physical and mental health

How Does MTSS Work?

  • Every student starts with strong classroom instruction.
  • Teachers monitor progress to see how students are learning.
  • Extra help is provided when needed—some students may need short-term support, while others may benefit from ongoing assistance.
  • Families are key partners in the process, working with teachers to ensure student success.

Why is MTSS Important?
MTSS ensures that every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential by removing barriers to learning and providing personalized support. Whether a student needs extra help or challenges, this system ensures they get what they need to grow and succeed.
