The Sound Wall Music Initiative Brings Hiroya Tsukamoto to OHS and Donates Electric Guitar to School

Students in Opelika High School’s guitar classes had a special visitor as internationally acclaimed guitarist and composer Hiroya Tsukamoto spent time with students, sharing his musical expertise and personal journey as an artist.
Hiroya, a Japanese-born guitarist known for his innovative playing style and original compositions, performed at The Sound Wall in downtown Opelika Friday evening. Ahead of his performance, he visited Mr. Bruce’s guitar classes to offer a hands-on demonstration, playing for students and discussing songwriting, musical technique, and his experiences as a professional musician.
This unique opportunity was made possible through a partnership with The Sound Wall Music Initiative (SWMI), a local nonprofit dedicated to enhancing music education in Opelika. During the visit, SWMI presented a brand-new electric guitar donated by one of their community supporters to the OHS guitar program.
“We are incredibly grateful to Hiroya Tsukamoto and the Sound Wall Music Initiative for giving our students such a valuable and inspiring experience,” said Mr. Bruce, Opelika High School guitar instructor. “Opportunities like this show our students how music can connect people across cultures and generations, and donating an electric guitar enriches our experiences in the classroom and performance.”
