Opelika City Schools Unveils Culinary Food Truck

On Tuesday, December 10, Opelika City Schools celebrated the Opelika High School Culinary Food Truck launch with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The event marked the culmination of a transformative project to enhance student learning through hands-on experiences and community engagement.
The ceremony was attended by the superintendent of the Opelika City Schools, members of the Opelika Board of Education, other school personnel, and representatives from the Opelika Chamber of Commerce. Attendees toured the fully restored food truck and sampled desserts prepared by the Culinary Department.
Chef Judy Eldred said, “We’re excited and grateful to see this dream become a reality. Our students can apply what they’ve learned in the classroom by developing menus, creating business plans, and interacting with their community.”
The food truck serves as a mobile classroom, equipping students with skills in food preparation, customer service, and business operations. It will be utilized for catering school events and engaging with various community events. The public can support the culinary students by visiting the food truck on Friday, December 13, at Opelika’s Christmas In A Railroad Town.
